Why do people say they’re proud to be American then go on to say it’s easier to ignore politics than participate? That our rights being taken away is inevitable? Was it inevitable in the 1770s? 1810s? 1910s? 1940s? Were the Communists bound to take over in the Cold War? All of this would’ve been inevitable if we just sat and took it rather than participated in the defense of our rights! And as for women and minorities, our ancestors fought and fought for hundreds of years for us to have the right to own property (and not be property ourselves), the right to vote, the right to have any violence/violation against our rights to be crimes. America’s history is a history of David beating Goliath. So what changed? Why is corporate slavery inevitable? There were plenty of rich people behind those who tried to violate our rights before, does money suddenly have a magic power it never had before? I don’t understand how apathetic people can call themselves Americans when they’d just as well live in an oligarchy or monarchy just the same (as long as it’s not communism, of course!)
